Chi Wai Liu, a Hong Kong native, began his piano studies at the age of six. In 2006, he received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Two years later, he completed a Master of Music from the same school under the instruction of Dr. Sergio Ruiz. While at SHSU, he was awarded a full scholarship and served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Chi Wai’s piano teachers have also included Christine Schaffer from Houston Community College Northwest and Debbie Yu in Hong Kong.
Chi Wai was an adjunct piano professor at Sam Houston State University and Houston Community College Northwest. He has collaborated with many instrumentalists, singers and various ensembles. In 2007, Chi Wai toured China with the Sam Houston State University Symphony Orchestra. That same year, he performed a piano recital in Leon, Mexico. In 2006, Chi Wai won third place in the Young Artists Piano Concerto Contest sponsored by the Texas Music Teachers Association.
Chi Wai has taught private piano lessons for more than fifteen years to students of all ages and skill levels. Currently, he works in the Houston area as an accountant, piano instructor and pianist at Cypress Trails United Methodist Church in Spring, Texas.
